Medical Insurance

Employees working a minimum of 48 hours per pay period are eligible for medical insurance. Coverage begins the first of the month following the first 30 consecutive days of employment. Rush North Shore currently offers three options for medical insurance:
  1. Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Advantage (An HMO Plan): includes a vision discount program.
  2. Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue HMO – Illinois: includes a vision discount program.
  3. Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue PPO: includes a vision discount program.

Additional Discount on Medical Services Delivered at Rush North Shore

Employees receiving services at Rush North Shore Medical Center are eligible to receive a 20% discount on the balance owed for patient services received at Rush North Shore Medical Center. All services received by employees are eligible for this discount, regardless of the individual's insurance plan or the medical necessity of the service. In most cases, the balance owed will be the amount not paid by the patient's insurance carrier.

Other hospital payment programs offered are:

  1. An “interest-free payment plan” on any balance due.
  2. The opportunity to apply for financial assistance.

Dental Insurance

Employees working a minimum of 48 hours per pay period are eligible for dental insurance. Coverage begins the first of the month following the first 90 consecutive days of employment. Rush North Shore currently offers two options for dental insurance:
  1. Guardian/First Commonwealth DMO
  2. Guardian/First Commonwealth PPO
Employee Assistance Program

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is provided by Rush North Shore Medical Center for the purpose of preventing or easing personal problems through early intervention. There is no cost to use this program.

Life Insurance (Basic)

Rush North Shore offers employees working a minimum of 40 hours per pay period, free basic life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Coverage begins the first of the month following the first 90 consecutive days of employment.
  • Full time: (72 – 80 hours per pay period) Benefit equals one (1) time the employee's annual salary ($50,000 maximum)
  • Part time: (40-71 hours per pay period) benefit equals $5,000
Supplemental Life Insurance

Rush North Shore offers employees working a minimum of 32 hours per pay period an opportunity to purchase additional group life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance for themselves and their spouse and/or dependent children. Coverage begins the first of the month following the first 90 consecutive days of employment.

Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance

Rush North Shore Medical Center offers employees working a minimum of 72 hours per pay period, an opportunity to purchase group long-term disability (LTD) insurance. LTD insurance guarantees a percentage of your income (50% or 60%) if you meet the disability requirements set forth by the insurance company due to a sickness or accident. Coverage begins the first of the month following the first 90 consecutive days of employment.

RETIREMENT
  • 403(b) - Any employee may voluntarily contribute at any time to RNSMC sponsored pension plan.
  • Pension Plan – 401(a)


  • Rush North Shore will contribute 4% of the employee’s gross annual salary, once an employee becomes vested in Rush North Shore Medical Center pension plan. An employee becomes vested after working a minimum of 1000 hours for two consecutive years, based on the employee’s anniversary date. The employee will begin to receive the employer contributions and employer matching at the start of the enrollment period, January 1 or July 1 whichever comes first after meeting the eligibility requirements. Rush North Shore will match by 50% any voluntary contribution by the employee up to 2.5%.

College Savings Plan

Employees working a minimum of 32 hours per pay period may invest at any time in a post tax savings plan for college.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

PTO is a benefit offered to eligible employees who work at least 32 hours per pay period. PTO provides considerable flexibility for utilizing accrued time off by combining holiday, conventional vacation days, and sick days into one PTO bank.

Although PTO accrues from the date of hire, it may not be used until after the successful completion of the ninety (90) day Introductory Period except for the six (6) Rush North Shore recognized holidays. The employee must have the available PTO accrued in his/her bank in order to be paid for the holiday.

Direct Deposit

Employees may direct deposit their payroll checks at any banking institution of their choice.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Employees scheduled for at least 32 hours per pay period are eligible to enroll for Medical and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts. These accounts are a way to save for expenses on a pre-tax basis.

Credit Union

Employees have two selections for Credit Unions and may join Meadows or Healthcare Associates Credit Unions (HACU) at any time within their employment.

Tuition Reimbursement

Reimbursement is for course work following three (3) months of employment. Application must be submitted prior to the beginning of the course.
  • Full time - 100% up to $5,000 a year
  • Part time - 60% up to $2,500 a year (48 – 71 hours per pay period)
PACE/CTA Pass

Employees working a regular budget schedule are able to purchase an unlimited ride 30-day Pace/CTA pass through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis. The cost of the pass is deducted from the employee’s check over two consecutive pay periods.

Gift Shop

The gift shop, stocked with greeting cards, perfumes, sundries and other items, is available to all employees at Rush North Shore as well as patients and the general public. When available, discounted movie tickets may be purchased there as well.
