Anticoagulation Clinic

Rush North Shore’s Anticoagulation Clinic is a highly effective way for patients and their physicians to manage and monitor anticoagulation medication, which is taken to prevent blood clots. Located in the lobby of the Professional Building, eligible patients are referred by their physicians for management of oral warfarin therapy (Coumadin ™) by a clinical pharmacist. A finger-stick blood test is taken, and within minutes dosage adjustments can be made by a highly trained pharmacist. Each clinic visit also includes a consultation with a pharmacist who reviews any changes in health or medications to help prevent problems caused by drug interactions or illness which can affect how the body handles medication. The pharmacist helps troubleshoot any medication-related problems and counsels patients on how to live as normally as possible while taking blood thinners.
