Genetic Counseling and Risk Assessment Program

Are you at risk? Our Genetic Counseling and Risk Assessment Program, active in breast, ovarian, colon, endometrial and other hereditary cancer syndromes, provides comprehensive counseling and testing for all types of familial cancers. Our program works collaboratively with Rush University Medical Center and the Rush Cancer Institute.

A good place to start is to ask yourself if any of these points describe you:
  • Members of my family have had cancer.
  • A family member has an identified genetic mutation linked to cancer {such as BRCA1 or BRCA2 and Hereditary Non-Polyposis Colo-rectal Cancer (HNPCC)}.
  • I was diagnosed with cancer before I was 50.
  • My cancer was bilateral (such as in both breasts or ovaries).
  • I have had more than one type of cancer.
If you can answer "yes" to any one of these questions, and especially if you are planning a pregnancy, we urge you to talk to one of our genetic counselors.
