Heart Failure

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition in which the heart can't pump enough blood to the body's other organs. This can result from coronary artery disease, past heart attack or high blood pressure. CHF can also be a result of cardiomyopathy, an inflammation of the heart muscle; or endocarditis, an infection of the heart.

The Rush North Shore Heart Failure program is part of the Rush Heart Institute of Chicago, utilizing the same innovative treatments and protocols as Rush University Medical Center.

A certified cardiac heart failure nurse educator is assigned to all heart failure patients and works closely with physicians and cardiologists. Her primary role is to improve care and the patient's quality of life by educating patients and families about how to live with and manage cardiac disease.
