Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Rush North Shore offers two full-service, 24-hour cardiac catheterization labs for patients who need diagnostic tests such as angiograms, or therapeutic treatments for heart disease, including angioplasty. Each year, our cardiologists perform 1,400 diagnostic cardiac catheterizations and 600 angioplasties of coronary and peripheral stent placements. Since the inauguration of the Catheterization Lab, our cardiologists have been able to achieve an Emergency Department EKG-to-vessel-open average time that exceeds American College of Cardiology standards. Our cardiac specialists are experts at electrophysiology testing and other groundbreaking procedures, being among the first in the United States to offer drug-eluting stents.
  • drug-eluting and metal stents
  • rotoblator
  • angiojet
  • balloon valvuloplasty
  • peripheral vessel stents (including kidney and aorta)
  • biventricular pacers and AICDs
Okner Electrophysiology Lab
  • At Rush North Shore Medical Center, our Okner EP Lab offers the newest interventional technology available in the field of electrophysiology. The program is led by an electrophysiologist as well as a team of skilled nurses and technologists trained and specialized in the care of patients with electrical problems. Comprehensive diagnostic testing is available for the evaluation of dizziness, palpitations, loss of consciousness resulting from insufficient blood flow to the brain, slow heart rate, fast heart rate, abnormal or irregular heart rhythm, atrial flutter and heart failure treatment. Upon completion of diagnostic evaluation, the lab is able to perform the necessary intervention immediately. The area of interventional EP is growing rapidly in which the physician evaluates the source of abnormal rhythms, identifies the point of origin and uses various techniques to eliminate the source of abnormal rhythm or create a pattern of ablations that block the abnormal electrical signal from being conducted throughout the heart.
