Department of Psychiatry
Rush North Shore Medical Center has a 26-bed adult inpatient psychiatric unit. We offer comprehensive care in a comfortable, community hospital setting.
Our skilled medical staff specialize in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of mental illnesses including:
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Anxiety and panic disorders
- Obsessive compulsive disorder
- Thought disorders
- Substance abuse
In addition to psychiatrists, our multidisciplinary treatment team includes nurses, mental health counselors, social workers, occupational therapists and recreational therapists. In collaboration with the patient and family, we create individual treatment plans which may include:
- Individual therapy
- Group therapy
- Family therapy
- Medication management
- Treatment for medical conditions that may impact psychiatric care

We know how difficult and urgent it can be to find the help you want. To assist physicians, clinics, emergency department personnel, crisis workers, family members and others seeking help for people who may require hospitalization, we have offer a 24-hour assessment service.
Psychiatric Assessment and Referral Services (PARS) is designed to help facilitate access to services at Rush North Shore Medical Center. A licensed mental health professional is available by phone, around the clock, to respond to assist with and assess needs for:
- Potential admissions
- Appropriate level of care
- Referrals to mental health providers and resources
